Plot Summary of Cycling the Moon
"This sociological science fiction book satirizes bureaucracy, government, tyranny, and suburban materialism through an alien culture on the Greenmyn Moon in another galaxy that has a Monarchy that maintains order with an over-blown bureaucracy, including through their Minister of Poetic Justice. Marty, a sensitive, creative teen on Earth whose supervisor father does not understand him and whose children's librarian mother tries to but does not fully, seeks escape from friends, who pick on him, and his parents (at first). He gets this escape when he discovers that the cartoon character that is shrunk down in his watch is really Tempus Fugit Greenmyn, a Greenmyn alien inventor and creative genius. Tempus Fugit has been shrunk down and placed in this watch by the Minister of Poetic Justice on the Greenmyn Moon as punishment for his having invented a method to cycle his entire moon through time. The Greenmyn Monarchy feared that Tempus would use this time travel method to start a revolution and had him punished by the M.O.P.J. Marty, Tempus Fugit, and a band of eccentric, minor characters have many misadventures surrounding this seemingly sadistic antagonist. Whether the M.O.P.J. will change them or they will change the M.O.P.J. remains to be seen. Yet the M.O.P.J., in order to usurp power from the Monarchy, has stolen Tempus' ideas and is attempting to cycle the entire moon back in time. Eventually (whether through the M.O.P.J.'s efforts or the band of heroes' efforts is unknown without reading the book), the entire Greenmyn Moon is taken back in time to when the past moon existed. Meanwhile, Marty is trying to adjust to living among the Greenmyn, though he feels that this is one place in which he can fit in. Given the time travelling moon phenomenon, though, Greenmyn and humans are in for an adjustment as a past moon and a present moon exist. Various doubles of all of the characters, save for those who were not on the moon in the past, exist and add confusion and parodoxes to various situations that the characters encounter. Doubles of the Ministers of Primitive Earth Objects, who collect Earth objects for the Monarchy, continue their greed two-fold by collecting objects from Earth and trading throughout the galaxy. They may even be implicated in some of the eventual problems on past moon. And one of the M.O.P.J.'s runs amuck while the other one... well, one simply has to "Cycle the Moon" to discover what he is up to and if the band of heroes can help save the kingdom and restore order to the moons, past and present...
