Plot Summary of Dark Legend
"

Leisure, 5.99, Jan 2002
ISBN: 084394952X

Something occurs that awakens Gabriel the legendary Carpathian hunter from his self-imposed grave. Gabriel knows whatever caused this has also awakened his twin brother Lucien the vampire. Gabriel remembers how Lucien hunted vampires for centuries before becoming one and how they vowed to kill one another if they ever changed. That is why he tricked his sibling and buried both of them in the Paris cemetery.

He feels old and knows he must feed soon. Francesca Del Ponce offers him aid and he cannot resist her soothing nature. She takes him to her estate and proffers her life to him. Gabriel takes too much of her blood before realizing he almost killed his lifemate. Gabriel realizes he must protect Francesca from his brother. Francesca explains that she is Carpathian, but hid that because her lifemate Gabriel rejected her centuries ago. Though upset with himself over rejecting her centuries ago, Gabriel must continue his vampire quest, stop Lucien, and persuade his lifemate they belong together, an impossible triad of tasks for anyone not Carpathian.

"Gabriel is an ancient being awakening from years of sleeping underground to keep his wicked brother at bay. The first person he runs into happens to be his lifemate. Francesca is a healer who has successfully lived with the humans in order to help the less fortunate. Francesca and Gabriel are Carpathians. They fight the vampires which are the evil ones of their race. Gabriel, while hunting the evil ones, tries to convince Francesca she is meant to be with him, not the doctor she has thought about wedding and growing old with."
Sherrie L. Jones, Resident Scholar

"Gabriel has been hunting his twin brother, Lucien, for hundreds of years. He never dreamed that his brother, who was the strongest of all Carpathians, could turn vampire, but he was determined to keep his promise to destroy him before he can ruin more innocent lives. Gabriel knows that he is not Lucien's equal, but he did manage to trick him and imprison them both deep underground for over a hundred years. But something woke him suddenly and Gabriel knew that Lucien was free. All Gabriel felt, though, was a relentless hunger, an overwhelming desire for blood that demanded satisfaction. Before he could find suitable prey, he heard a voice calling to him, soothing, calming, and offering him strength to control his craving.

Francesca Del Ponce was a healer and had dedicated her life to good and helping those less fortunate. Unbeknownst to the humans who surrounded her, Francesca was Carpathian, one of the few females who escaped the bloodletting many years ago. Francesca had separated herself from all other Carpathians and resigned herself to living alone. She knew that she had a life mate out there because she had seen him, but he had turned away from her without saying a word. That man was Gabriel.

Gabriel had no idea that he had caused so much anguish to his lifemate and he was horrified when he found out the truth. Still, he could not be denied and claimed Francesca as his own. For the first time in centuries he could see colors and feel emotions - feel fear... Because he knew that by binding Francesca to him, he had made her a target for his twin, Lucien, who was always watching, waiting for the moment to strike...
