"This book takes place in the middle of the 19th century.
The main character is a female who comes from Barbardos (where she was practically royalty and had many slaves), and goes to Conneticut to live with her only remaining relatives. She goes through many trials and tribulations while there and has many inner sturggles and strugggles with the society here that she finds very odd. She is to marry over the winter but ends up changing her mind at the last moment, because she discovers she loves someone else. I can't reveal the rest right now... :)"

She almost marries a wealthy Puritan, but she changes her mind because she realizes she actually loves the first mate of the ship she came to Connecticut in. "
