Plot Summary of Death Must Go On
"Back in the 1950s in a small Shropshire village, the local economy is grinding to a halt because people just aren't dying off. The undertaker, the doctor, the chemist, the solicitor and the pub landlord contemplate the money that could be made from polishing a few of the old dears off. Then, when it appears that the doctor has murdered one of his patients, they find themselves having to cover up for him, and suddenly able to put their dastardly plans in to action. An old people's home is opened, with the idea that the elderly residents will be persuaded to sign over their wealth. Enter two prostitues, an escaped Italian prisoner of war, a vicar so short sighted he can't tell a cactus from a person, a vile young man called Snyed and a host of incompetant policeman and the farcial tale is under way. This is a clasically English piece of comedy and a very entertaining read."
Bryn Pearson, Resident Scholar
