Declan Fitzgerald has a thriving law practice and is getting married in three weeks when he realizes he isn't leading the life he wants to live. He ends the engagement, calls off the wedding and moves to dilapidated Louisiana mansion, Manet Hall. Not to long after he moves into his new home, he meets Angelina and deeply falls into real love.
The besotted Declan is determined to marry Lena and he wages a one-man battle to wear down her formidable resistance. Lena is fighting her attraction to Declan for all she's worth because they are replaying the events that happened a hundred years ago to the original owners of Manet Hall, hopefully with happier results.
Nora Roberts has written a beautiful romance centering on a couple who have been reincarnated to fix what went wrong in their previous life together. A haunted house, complete with ghosts, seems genuine when placed in Ms. Roberts' story line. The fast paced, action oriented plot is heading for the best sellers lists as MIDNIGHT BAYOU looks to be an award winner.

"Fleeing from the law and his uptight Bostonian background, Declan Fitgerald purchases a dilapidated mansion in New Orleans only to find it is haunted by more than one spirit. While remodeling his newly acquired home, Declan dreams of an ancient love story with a less than happy ending. Determined not to be scared away from this place he feels so connected to, he enlists the aid of the beautiful Lena, whose ancestors served in the mansion in the 1800s. Declan and Lena uncover the mysteries of the past while discovering each other. Can Declan win Lena's heart and persuade her that their love is meant to be? Or is his love destined to fail as it did in the past?"

"Declan Fitzgerald has a great job in Boston, but he hates it. He leaves his fiance and moves to New Orleans, where his best friend from college lives. He moves into an old house that has been calling to him, and he sets about restoring it.
The house is haunted, however, by the ghosts of a family that lived there before. Declan falls in love with a descendant of one of those ghosts, Lena, and she is reluctant to share her feelings for him. Declan romances her and won't take no for an answer, and Lena slowly comes to understand that she doesn't need to hide her heart from him.
As Lena and Declan experience the ghosts, Lena comes to the realization that Declan is seeing and acting like Abigail, a murdered woman, and Lena's grandmother several times great. Lena herself represents Abigail's husband, Lucian. Together Declan and Lena must work to make their own relationship work so that the ghosts of the past can finally rest in piece."
