"Maggie Holloway meets her former stepmother, Nuala, at a party with her boyfriend, Liam. Nuala invited Maggie to visit her house in Newport and Maggie arrives to find her dead. Maggie had inherited Nuala's house and while staying in Newport, she realizes that her former stepmother's death was not random. She finds connections with the deaths of Nuala's friends. She must find out who the killer is before he comes after her."

When Maggie decides to stay for a while, Her step-mother Finnuala, holds a dinner party but is murdered while preparing. Maggie goes to Finnuala's home but finds her beaten Step-mother in a pool of blood.
Over the next several days, she finds that Finnuala was going to move to a seniors' home and to sell her estate. The day before her death, Finnuala changes her will and all of her possesions go to Maggie. On the other end of the town, several weathy women on the waiting list for the seniors' home loose thousands on junky stock deals.
Maggie makes friends with Finnuala's old friends at the home, but several days later is pronounced dead of heart failure. After learnig of 4 other deceased freinds at the home, Maggie investigates.
Maggie finds a bell on each of the graves including Finnuala's. After learnig of a incident from which a house member fainted, she asks a local Professor on the customs of death if he had bells of the kind she was looking for.
Maggie is caugh off guard and burried in a casket alive.struggling to stay alive. Praying that a Man she's been dating casually in New York (His parents live in the town)to save her.
