" Robert Kemble, an Earl, decides to go home for a visit when he meets the new vicar's daughter, Victoria Lyndon. They embark on a journey of fanciful love until they decide to elope. Both of their fathers think that they do not belong together due to their differences in rank in society, so both dads end up disillusioning the couple, making Victoria and Robert believe that the other has betrayed them. Victoria's father had tied her up so she could not meet Robert, and Robert's father lied to both Robert and Victoria, making her think he was just dallying with her and making Robert think that she just wanted a title and money.
Seven years later, Victoria, who has taken a position of governess to escape her father, meets Robert again while he was in a garden maze, where she has been lost. Both regard each other with contempt, but still feel the spark that brought them together seven years before. While Robert is attending they house party, he attempts to seduce Victoria to get her out of his system, and even though he is bitter, still finds himself coming to her rescue. Robert decides to ask her if she will be his mistress, which deeply insults her after all they had shared, renewing her bitterness towards him.
After leaving the house party, Robert visits his father and discovers his father's treachery after he decides to confess all due to his son's bitter attitude towards life. Robert becomes frantic to find Victoria, especially since he discovers she was fired from her governess position due to his actions. After weeks of searching, he finally finds her working for a dressmaker in London. Robert spends the rest of his moments showing Victoria his remorse for his actions and makes his best efforts into wooing her to be bride once again."
