Plot Summary of The Viscount Who Loved Me
"This is the 2nd book in Julia Quinn's "Bridgerton Series". When Anthony Bridgerton sets his cap for Edwina Sheffield, that last thing he expects is to marry her sister instead! He doesn't want to fall in love, yet when he's around Kate Sheffield, that's all he seems to be doing. The young viscount is torn- should push her away from the very start, or love her now and break her heart in the end?"
Meredith Griffin, Resident Scholar

""The Viscount who Loved Me" is the story of the head of the Bridgerton family: Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. The Viscount found himself seriously considering taking a bride, Edwina Sheffield. Anthony thinks she is the perfect match for him; Edwina is young, beautiful, smart, and a woman he will never fall in love with! Enter Katherine Sheffield, Edwina's older half-sister, when Katherine learned of the Viscount's plan to court her younger sister, the older Sheffield sister is determined to thwart Anthony's pursuit. Katherine knew of Anthony's rakish reputation and she's afraid that Edwina might just become one of his "victims."

To Anthony's great consternation, Katherine is always on his way when he tries to court Edwina. So Anthony thought of scaring Katherine by seducing her, but to his dismay, Katherine might just be the one who will truly bring him down to his knees when it comes to love."

Rina Hall, Resident Scholar

"    Anthony Briderton, a viscount, decides it's time to marry and produce an heir.   After discussing his plans with his astonished brothers (Anthony is a notorious rake), he learns the diamond of the season is 17 year old Edwina Sheffield, so he sets out to court her. Anthony learns though that Edwina has vowed only to marry a man her sister, Kate Sheffield, approves.
Kate, a 21 year old, has always lived in the shadow of her younger sister's overwhelming beauty, bringing her self-confidence so low she decides not to marry at all but instead age into spinsterhood. Kate, who is outspoken and overprotective of her little sister, feels that Anthony is to much of a rake and would only hurt her sister, so tells him she disapproves of his courtship.
Anthony and Kate battle throughout the book, even though both feel their anger growing into passion. Kate begins to feel for Anthony but tamps down her unrequited desire. Anthony desires Kate, but tells himself that Edwina is the more logical, safer choice for a wife. Each fight the growing love that is taking over their hearts."

"Anthony Bridgerton's father died when he was eighteen leaving him to care for his mother and seven younger children as well as tending to his estates and Viscountcy. Being the eldest, Anthony had a special bond with his father, so much so that when Edmund Bridgerton (Anthony's father) dies at the age of 38 killed by a bee sting, Anthony believes that he cannot possibly outlive his father who was everything a man should be. Anthony is determined not to fall in love so that his future wife won't miss him when he eventually dies which he believes will be before he reaches the age of 38.

Anthony is a consummate rake and is considered the catch of the London Season. He is wealthy, handsome and titled, however, he has proved to be very elusive which annoys London's match making mamas to no end. At the age of 29 he decides to marry so that he can produce an heir but the woman he decides to marry (Edwina Sheffield) refuses to be joined in holy matrimony unless she has the approval of her sister Kate who does not like Anthony one bit, and so Anthony not only sets out to woo Edwina but her sister Kate also.

Throughout Anthony's courtship of Edwina, his relationship with Kate changes from dislike to grudging respect until they eventually share an amicable frienship. Kate no longer feels that she can withold her permission for Anthony to marry Edwina but the problem is that she loves Anthony herself. Deciding to ignore her feelings for Anthony she tells him that he can marry Edwina. Unfortunately the couple are caught in a compromising position that forces them to marry. Their subsequent marriage is a trial for both parties as to whether Kate realises that it was her Anthony wanted all along and whether Anthony can overcome his fear of dying and leaving behind the woman he loves."

Lauren Hoffman, Resident Scholar

"The Bridgertons named their 8 children in alphabetical order.

Anthony Bridgerton, the oldest in the family, filled in the post of the head of the family ever since the sudden death of his beloved father at the age of 18. At 29, he decided it was time to get married and beget an heir and cast his eyes on Edwina, the younger Sheffield who was the toast of the season.

Standing in his way was the decidedly plain Kate Sheffield determined to protect her step-sister from the arrogant and sinfully-handsome viscount (known for his rakish ways). Despite constantly snapping at each other, Anthony felt an unfamiliar twinge in his stomach at the most innocent things that Kate did and ended up having erotic dreams about her.

One stormy night, he heard someone whimper in the study and before he could comprehend, he was crawling under the table to hold Kate in his comforting embrace. He could no longer avoid the truth, he desired her even though she was the most maddening female he had ever encounter.

Kate was stung by a bee (which was responsible for his father's death). In his desperation, he tried to suck the supposedly-present venom beneath her collarbone while unconsciously cupping her breast in full-view of the guest wing. Kate was stunned to see her mother, Lady Bridgerton, and Mrs Featherington (the town's biggest gossip) in attendance. Caught in such a compromising position, they had no choice but to marry. Anthony was desperate to steer clear from falling in love with his desirable wife. That would be one thing too painful- to fall in love when he had only 9 years remaining to live...
