| Plot Summary of Recollections: An Autobiography by Viktor E. Frankl |
"Viktor E. Frankl, born 1905, professor of neurology and psychiatry at the University of Vienna, and author of the best seller 'Man's Search for Meaning' (1945), here gives a fascinating overview of his life and thought. As the creator of Logotherapy, the 'third Viennese school of psychotherapy' (the others being of Freud and Adler), and survivor of four Nazi concentration camps, he has a inspiring story to tell. Some experiences of his three year stay in Theresienstadt, Auschwitz, Kaufering III, and Turkheim camps are recounted here. His wonderful sense of humour shines out in jokes, cartoons, repartee and anecdotes. There are many useful black and white photographs and some of his original cartoon drawings.
This is a book which stimulates, inspires, and tantalises. He mentions several authors and a variety of counselling methods which cry out to be followed up in greater detail. These include 'common denominator technique', 'fate analysis', and 'paradoxical intention', and he even illustrates the latter by recounting how he used it to get out of a speeding ticket. Now that's a technique I can use!"
