Jonah Blackhawk gets busted by Boyd when he was just a teenager doing illegal gambling. Because the cop Boyd has tenaciously seen through Jonah's proper upbringing by taking him to youth centers, programs and counseling, Jonah has grown up to become a respectable citizen who has made a successful and profitable business – all he thanks to Boyd.
When a series of burglary incidents happen to the patrons of Jonah's clubs, Boyd ask Jonah that if he can have his police force disguised as one of his employees to catch the culprit. Jonah has never liked cops but because this is Boyd asking him a favor, he relents. But he doesn't expect that the cop Boyd would be assigning is his daughter. Furthermore he hasn't expected her to be an attractive and intriguing woman. However he keeps his distance off her as respect to the cop who has saved his life.
Allison Fletcher loves her job and when she lands her first assignment, that of staking Jonah's club by disguising herself as a waitress, she makes sure she will catch the culprit. Jonah keeps her work interesting. She finds herself attracted to him and when she acts on her feelings, Jonah seems to walk away. Happy to be friends with him, both of them enjoy their harmless and fun banter. But the attraction proves to overwhelm them and they can't help but to act on it. Jonah knows that after sleeping with Allison, there will never be another woman for him. Allison is it.
When the burglary attempts turn into homicide, Jonah tries to protect Allison as possible as he can although he knows that she does her job well. But the murderer wants Allison because in one of the stakeout, she has killed one of the perpetrators – the sister of the murderer. Now he wants revenge. Jonah makes Ally stay in his apartment until the case is solved. Using all his resources, Jonah tries to protect Ally before the murderer can get to her while Allison tries to catch both the burglar and the killer before he hits again.
