| Plot Summary of Women of Courage |
"Women from a variety of backgrounds define courage and at least one time in their lives when they had to display it. The stories of 41 women fill this book, from the famous (actresses Sharon Gless and Michele Lee, writer Isabel Allende, Sarah Weddington, who argued Roe v. Wade before the Supreme Court), to women you have never heard of. Their experiences run from leading an expedition to the South Pole, to facing down armed guerillas in Cambodia, to assisting or having an abortion. Several ran for government office; a poor, black, and disabled woman founded a sewing center for others like herself; women helped their stricken parent or child to die. The stories are deeply moving and inspiring."
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
