| Plot Summary of The Number of the Beast |
"A brilliant math professor developes a device that bends time and space using six dimensional euclidian geometry, which allows him and three friends to traverse between myriad dimensions, while escaping from a malevolent entity known only as the "Black Hats", and searching for a competent obstetrician to attend the two female members of the party, who have managed to become pregnant. The plot eventually meets up with that of the future hustory series starring Lazarus Long, aka W. W. Smith, Ted Bronson, etc."

"An excellent story about four rugged individualists (Dr. Jake Burroughs, his daughter D.T. Burroughs Carter, Zebadiah John Carter, and Hilda Corners Burroughs) who find themselves on the run from an unknown and technically advanced alien race, bent on destroying them. They travel among the universes in a fantastic flying car, equiped with a Burroughs' Time/Space transporter device, finding themselves it places that,to them, had only existed in books each of them had read. Eventually, they run into one of Heinlein's other protagonists from his earlier writings. The book is full of typical Heinlein dry humor... a fun flight of fancy. "

"Four people use a highly advanced vehicle to traverse parallel universes to escape from a nebulous but persistent enemy. Along the way computers become human, characters from other books are encountered, and a very loose sex theory is promoted."
Gail Adams, Resident Scholar
