"A young woman is sent to Fort McClellan, Alabama to face the test of Army Basic Training. In the two and a half months she spends there, she is forced to overcome obstacles she could never have imagined. Through the letters she writes back home, she describes her trials and triumphs over man, nature and her own fears about becoming a United States Soldier."
