Plot Summary of In the Shadow of the King: Priscilla, Elvis, and Me
"    Michael Edwards was a successful model who lived with Priscilla Presley for seven years, which was a longer amount of time than she was married to Elvis Presley. When Priscilla had first met Elvis in Germany, she had been a shy fourteen-year old. She had been completely overwhelmed by his fame and money, and she allowed herself to be transformed into his fantasy of the perfect wife and mother. As the lover, friend, and confidant of Priscilla Presley, Michael Edwards helped her to blossom into a mature, independent woman. Edwards would also serve as a father figure to Priscilla and Elvis' daughter, Lisa Marie, even while he neglected his own daughter Caroline..
These two people were brought together due to their sexual compatibility, their mutual love of the outdoors, and their late night raid on Elvis Presley's Palm Springs house to sort out his possessions. There were also many bad times during their relationship: Such as the child that they conceived, and the subsequent abortion that filled them both with a sense of overwhelming guilt. There were loud fights when Lisa Marie began to mature into a young woman, and Edwards developed romantic feelings for her. Priscilla was also a woman who was fearful of growing old, and obsessed with her physical beauty. Michael Edwards began to resent being referred to in the press as "Mr. Presley", so he decided to have a few one-night stands during his relationship with Priscilla, while Priscilla also had a few affairs with famous men.
These two people were brought together by passion, and torn apart by the legend of Elvis Presley. "
