Plot Summary of England Under the Stuarts
"    James I ascended to the throne of England upon the death of Queen Elizabeth I in 1603. During the period between 1603 to 1714, England would grow from a great country, into a great empire. The freedom that emerged in England during these years would give birth to the ideals that helped to shape the American revolution. During this time, England would suffer through a civil war, which brought about the end of the monarchy, a Restoration, which brought the monarchy back to power, and a "Glorious Revolution" which created England's modern day Parliamentary style of government.
Queen Anne, who died in 1714, was the last monarch from the "House of Stuart", and she was the first monarch of a politically unified "Kingdom of Great Britain". The Stuart monarchs would be followed by the Hanoverian monarchs, and they would be instrumental in fanning the flames of the American revolution.
Never in any century of England's history had such rapid advances been made toward freedom. "
