Plot Summary of Too Many Cooks
" This novel is another entry in the Nero Wolfe detective series.

As the story opens, Nero Wolfe is on his way to a Master Chefs event. The event, known as Les Quinze Maîtres (Fifteen Master Chefs), is an event that Wolfe wants to attend in hopes of obtaining a recipe for a complex dish.

One of the master chefs is murdered. Wolfe agrees to investigate for several reasons. First, as a tribute to his friends. Second, to get the secret recipe to saucisse minuit.Third to avoid being detained in West Virginia.

Key events in the murder are observed by hotel staff, which is to say African American (black) men. Various West Virginia characters in the novel have considerably less favorable epithets for them. The Sheriff questions them and learns nothing, since he treats them with contempt.
Wolfe questions the same staff members and is much nicer to them. He is able to obtain information from them that aids him in his quest for the murderer.
