Plot Summary of The Last Anniversary
"Sophie Honeywell is floored when her ex boyfriend, Thomas Doughty, informs her that his recently deceased Aunt Connie has left Sophie her house in her will. Sophie is shocked for more than one reason. She wasn't particularly close to Aunt Connie, only having met her on two occasions. Second, Sophie broke Thomas' heart right before he was about to pop the question in a romantic, over the top setting. Although Sophie doesn't have second thoughts about dumping Thomas, she is a bit envious that he is happily married with a newborn while she is 39 and single. Although Sophie feels a bit guilty about her inheritance, she has to admit to herself that Scribbly Gum Island has always been a place of fascination for her, even prior to her relationship with Thomas. As a child Sophie heard tales of the Munro Baby Mystery which took place on Scribbly Gum Island. In 1932 little Baby Munro was found in her home, unattended, by sisters Connie and Rose Doughty. Baby Munro's parents were missing from the home and were never seen or heard from again. Despite attempst to solve the case, it has remained an unsolved mystery. Thomas' aunt Connie and her sister Rose took the baby in and raised her, naming her Enigma. Now, in order to claim her inheritance, Sophie heads to Scribbly Gum Island and comes face to face with the eccentric Doughty Clan. Veronika, Thomas' sister, used to be Sophie's best friend (before she broke her brother's heart) and is now outraged by Sophie's inheritance. Behind her mask of perpetual anger, Veronika is desperately trying to come out of the closet and introduce her girlfriend to her family. Beautiful Grace, Thomas' cousin, has just given birth to a baby and is suffering from raging post partum depression. Although married to handsome Callum, Grace is secretly planning to check out of her life. And Rose, Aunt Connie's sister, is trying to come to terms with her sister's passing and forge a new chapter in her life, while slowly peeling away the layers of a deep dark family secret. When Sophie discovers that Aunt Connie is acting even though she is dead, she has a little difficulty figuring out the identity of her true love. Is it Rick, the sexy gardener, Ian the attorney or could it be married Callum, to whom Sophie is madly attracted. As Sophie bonds with the Doughty clan and gains their acceptance, secrets emerge from the past involving the Munro Baby Mystery. "
