Plot Summary of The Barefoot Princess
"    Amy Rosabel is an exiled princess of a small european country, she is secretly living in a small village on the coast of England with an old woman, Miss Victorine, who saved her life two years before. The villagers are all plagued by poverty due to a ruthless landlord, the Marquess of Northcliff, who collects their rents and otherwise ignores their existance. Desperate for a solution, Amy plots to kidnap the Marquess and collect a ransom for which she can distribute among the villagers and escape with Miss Victorine.
Jermyn Edmondson, the Marquess of Northcliff, is a man is who is bored with life, his Uncle manages his estates and all the women in London no longer interest him. Jermyn, who has returned to his country estate to recuperate from a carriage accident, is surprised when a servant serves him tea and he wakes up in an unknown cellar. When Amy and Miss Victorine explain the circumstances of his kidnapping, he is deeply angered and vows revenge, even though he burns to seduce Amy.
The situation shifts when Jermyn's Uncle refuses to pay the ransom and Jermyn, who has managed to free himself, sticks around anyway. He discovers that his Uncle has been trying to plot his demise, so he makes a plan to see that his Uncle is brought to justice, but first he must convince Amy, whom he has grown to love, to be his wife. As the two wed, Amy is found by an emissary from her country, but she refuses to return, especially since her and Jermyn's love has created the future heir of Northcliff."
