Plot Summary of Island Flame
"Lady Catherine Adley is outraged when her ship is taken over by pirates and she is one of the few passengers taken aboard as hostages. Her rage is soon turned to fear when she realizes that she is to be separated from the other prisoners and held captive in the Captain's quarters. She has heard stories about what is done to women taken hostage by pirates, and her fears are realized when Captain Jonathan Hale repeatedly rapes, threatens, and beats her. Cathy says that Jon will suffer for what he's done to her, and looks forward to the day that she may see him hang.
Her feelings toward Jon change when she escapes and finds herself in a dangerous situation of her own making. Jon risks his own life to save her, and Cathy devotes herself to nursing him back to health in return. As they spend more time together they fall in love, but neither one of them is willing to admit it to the other.
Their lives are turned upside down when Jon is taken prisoner. He is abused, and told that everything done to him was ordered by Cathy. He is also forced to marry Cathy when her Father learns that she is pregnant. Jon reverts to his old treatment of her, abusing her and raping her, and Cathy has no idea why. She knows she cannot continue living with Jon this way, and makes plans to leave him. Will Jon be able to believe in Cathy's devotion to him before he loses her?"
