| Plot Summary of The Very Thought of You |
"Alexander Smith had been a corporate raider for 7 years. Then on morning disgusted with his career he retired and went to Scotland to live with his sister and her middle ages husband. After 7 years Alex was wealthy enough he no longer had to work. He knew all about his brother-in-law's keep and the magic forest and fairy rings that surrounded it and had been on a few adventures with him over the years to the past. One day he finds a map with strange markings on it. Being a map of the surrounding landscape he finds that the fairy rings are marked with destinations and decides to go adventuring on his own. He finds himself in Medieval England with a person in chain mail shooting arrows at him.
Margaret of Falconberg is a young woman with a secret. Her father had died 10 years ago and so far she has been able to keep that from her king and had the awesome responsibility of maintaining and defending her keep. Her father and his first in command have taught her fighting skills over the years and now she more skilled than any man in her command. She captures Alex Smith and decides he is the most handsome man she has ever met. She does not, however, understand the feelings he causes her to have.
Together Alex and Margaret join forces to protect her land from her vicious neighbor. Alex also has to find a way back to the present. He is delayed however because the fairy ring won't take him back and he and Margaret fall in love and marry. They are rescued from her time when Alex's sister and brother-in-law show up and take them back to the present.
This is a hugely funny book. Margaret's impression of the 20th century, her returning alone to her own time and them reuniting make this a book well worth reading. "
