| Plot Summary of Nagle's Mercy |
"This is a suspense thriller centered around an ambitious college student named Mitch Prudene. He has everything going for him: top grades, a scholarship to law school, a beautiful girlfriend, and a cool car. One night, he goes to a bar and gets involved in a fight where someone gets badly hurt (although not totally due to Mitch's fault). The police show up and Mitch does the wrong thing: he panics and flees. He knows that if anyone finds out about his involvement, it could ruin everything he has going for him.
A short time later, a mysterious character named Ace Nagle shows up. Nagle not only knows about the fight, but seems to know every other detail about MItch's past history too, even though Mitch has never met or even seen the man. Nagle begins blackmailing Mitch, threatening to go to the cops unless Mitch performs some small favors for Nagle, which include minor shopliftings and other misdemeanors.
At first, Mitch goes along with what Nagle wants, but too late realizes that Nagle is monitoring his every move and collecting incriminating evidence, with the goal of blackmailing Mitch into committing even biggger and more serious crimes. The only way out of the ordeal is for Mitch to find out who Nagle really is and what he's after. Soon Mitch finds himself in a dangerous a cat and mouse game with his adversary, as he realizes that Nagle's plot may be the part of an elaborate murder for hire scheme. At the same time, Mitch faces an internal battle between integrity and ambition -- should he do the right thing, even if it means giving up all that he has worked so hard for?"
