| Plot Summary of Having His Baby |
"Angela Justice at 30 suddenly yearns for a baby of her own. She is tired of only hugging her nieces, she wants to hug her own child. She has lost hope of waiting for Mr. Right and the person she loves, Lucas Ryder, her bestfriend, has a negative view on children. So she takes charge of her pregnancy by having artificial insemination. She doesn't tell Lucas her plans. Although they are close and begin way back in high school, she knows that he will get ballistic when he learns of her plan to have a baby. But the procedure costs a lot and she needs a second job to tide her over. So she gets into Wife Incorporated and becomes a “wife for hire” wherein she will do housecleaning for her employer. Unfortunately the only client who badly needs a “wife” is Lucas. Angela doesn't want Lucas to know that she's working a second job because it might lead to the discussion of her big plan. But eventually Lucas finds out and Angela remains secretive on why she takes on another job.
Lucas Ryder loves Angela like a bestfriend and sister. She has befriended him when he has been lonely after being abandoned by his mother. She takes him in her family even though her family has many objections. They eventually accept him and they have become his family also. When he has returned to the town after 2 years of studying for his specialization, he is surprised to find himself attracted to Angela. She fills his mind throughout the day and he keeps having sensual thoughts about her. He gets jealous when she goes on dates and he can't keep comparing his own dates to her. However he doesn't act on his feelings because he doesn't want to ruin their friendship. When he finds out that Angela is planning to have a baby, he is furious and hurt that she will keep this from him when they have no secrets from each other since the beginning of their friendship. He tells her to stop the plan since she will only subject her child to heartache about his having no father just as Lucas has experienced growing up.
During an unguarded and honest confrontation, they sleep together. Although Angela begins to feel that their sleeping together has been a mistake, Lucas insists it's not until Angela finds out that she gets accidentally pregnant with Lucas's baby. Knowing how Lucas feels about having babies, she decides to still tell him honestly but refuses any obligation he feels on his part. Lucas is partly elated and upset when he finds out about the baby. He wants to marry Angela because of it but Angela refuses. When she begins staying away from him, Lucas feels miserable and finally realizes that he loves her. With this revelation, he searches for Angela and convinces her of his love.
