| Plot Summary of Beneath the Surface |
" From different Caribbean backgrounds, Boni, Adlyn and Regina come together in Ottawa, Ontario and develop a close friendship; one that is certainly not without its ups and downs. Boni, who like Adlyn is a nurse at 'Universal' hospital, gladly steps in to fill the role of surrogate mother to Regina's eleven year old daughter,Tiffany, when Regina seems to be more interested in spending time with McIvor, her new love interest - traveling to Las Vegas and gambling at local casinos. Her deteriorating financial situation spirals out of control, causes her to be evicted from her apartment and she is forced to file for bankruptcy protection.
No one is more surprised than Boni, when through caring for Tiffany, she meets her father - the infamous Michael and a love affair starts. This is the same person whom Regina had always described as a cheat and a deadbeat dad. How does Regina react? Surprising too is the fact that Boni's own mother, Rebecca, had traveled a similar path many years before.
