They meet everyday for lunch and soon after fall in love. With Cooper, her uptight and serious life gets more relaxed. After months of being in a relationship, they get married. 5 years later, both of them still love one another. However Josie seems to have shift her work as her number 1 priority. After landing a multi-million dollar account, Josie makes sure that everything goes smoothly for her big client – that means more late nights and overtimes and less time spent with her husband for over 13 months. Cooper has been more than understanding of Josie's work. But sometimes he gets hurt and jealous when she treats her work as more important than him. She has missed countless dates and anniversaries with him in favor of working late. When he refuses to understand the enormity of her latest account, she calls him selfish. Hurt that she can't understand his needs, he walks out on her. Josie thinks that it's over between them when Cooper has walked out. But Cooper is not ready to give up yet. Since he doesn't want to spend the next 13 months without her while Josie works on her big-time client, he designs Josie's office in a way that they can have a private bedroom and he, his own workspace. The set-up works fine and Cooper with his jovial attitude puts a light atmosphere in the somber office.
When Josie receives the news that her brother and his wife have been killed in a vehicular accident, both she and Cooper rushes to Tennessee to manage the funeral and other legalities. They are also shocked to find to be temporary guardians to her brother's 2 kids. Knowing that they can't afford to have children with Josie's hectic work schedule and Cooper's work deadline, they can't also imagine sending the kids off to foster homes. So they adopt the kids and try to work things out temporarily. Josie commutes back and forth from Tennessee to New York to juggle her work and family duties. She works herself so hard to the point of getting acute ulcer which she didn't tell Cooper. When Cooper later finds out he is furious with her for keeping it from him. He forces Josie to stop from working until she gets better. But after getting better, Josie returns back full force to work especially when they have met so many problems in the account. Cooper is tired of doing all the household work and taking care of the kids. He finally gives Josie an ultimatum and Josie still chooses work. Heartbroken, Josie works herself hard to forget Cooper. But at the end of the day, she realizes that Cooper and the kids are the only people who matter. So she reorganizes her work and delegates her duties to her competent subordinates. She goes back to Cooper and Cooper still welcomes her back. She makes up for all the lost time she missed with Cooper and the kids.
