Kristi and her parents do not know Douglas Merson, so it was a little bit of weird news to find out that he had a file in him hone of Kristi. Mr. Merson was unable to speak with them due to his injuries, so Kristi and her parents were going to have to wait until he was feeling better so that he could explain why he was keeping this file.
Kristi goes to the hospital to confront him and arrives just in time to stop another attempt on his life. There was some man that came into the hospital to try adn kill Mr. Merson again, but luckily Kristi was there to stop it. The man saw her adn he left. The reason that she went to the hospital, was to talk to Mr. Merson, adn try to fingure out why he had a file on her. But unfortunate for her, Mr. Merson still could not speak. Kristi demanded that there should be a security gaurd in front od Douglas Merson's hospital room at all times, so that no body else would try and kill him.

Kristi discovers a painting in Douglas Merson's home adn she thinks that it was stolen. She also begins to question her place within her own family. A talented artist, Kristi is misunderstood by her accountant parents and finds herself attracted to Mersons interest in art. Then she learns that her mother and Mersons son, who used an assumed name, attended college together around the time she was born. Is there a connection between Merson and Kristi? Could Kristi be Mr. Merson's grand-daughter?
When Mr.Merson is brought back home Kristi goes adn visits him everyday. one day while she was in his room she smells gas. Mr.Merson is still unable to walk so she drags him out of the window. the police adn the firemen arrive. Who is this person trying to kill Mr. Merson. is the person still in the house?
Although filled with numerous twists and turns, the plot never attains anything more than a placid pace. Clues drop into Kristis lap and she is often in exactly the right place at the right time despite having to attend school, do homework, and cook meals for her family. Still, theres lots of action and Kristi is a likable heroine. "
