Plot Summary of China Doll
"Nola Sands, an American charismatic singing star is sent as a goodwill ambassador on a concert tour to China to bring joy to her masses of fans. Suddenly, her journey becomes anything but routine, when a desperate young Chinese mother thrusts her baby girl into Nola's arms and disappears.

Nola's pampered world is turned upside down when she learns that the sweet, smiling infant she names Lulu will be condemned to almost-certain starvation and death as an unwanted child in China's “Dying Rooms” orphanages--unless Nola can protect her. Attempting to keep Lulu safe, Nola watches her well-orchestrated life spin quickly out of control in harrowing events that throw the celebrity into a tumult of personal sacrifices and corporate intrigue. Most importantly, her public criticism of the deplorable conditions in "The Dying Rooms" places Nola at odds with the world's two superpowers as both the U.S. and China's governments, whose strained relationship her concert tour is supposed to help mend, are determined to block her adoption efforts and to silence her.

Against both the timeless beauty and cutthroat attitudes that pervade China, Nola endures a grueling flight through the remote countryside, as she struggles to protect Lulu. "
