Plot Summary of Surprised by Joy
"A famous Christian writer and scholar charts his upbringing from a boy from Belfast, Northern Ireland to his rise to fame as an Oxford don. He finally gave up atheism and became a Christian around the age of thirty. His experiences as a boy who loses his mother at an early age, difficulties in school in England, and his early brilliant career at Oxford are covered with an exceptional combination of both objectivity and subjective insight. The theme, which gives us the title, is of his frequent experience of 'joy', and what it finally came to mean to him."
Michael JR Jose, Resident Scholar
