Plot Summary of The Gypsy Moon
"Fifteen-year-old Gabrielle Winslow goes on her first date. When Greg takes her to Lover's Grove, they meet a bunch of gypsys. One tells her that she's going to soon go through a dark time but not to lose hope and gives her a necklace to remember the promise. Soon after, she loses her loving parents to a shipwreck. The emotional blow nearly destroys the young woman, but her dear Aunt Liza and Uncle Dalton Burke are there for her. The dutch couple raise her into adulthood where she becomes a doctor, like her maternal grandfather.
Uncle Dalton's a brilliant physicist. He's invited to Germany to work on a wonderful project concerning splitting atoms. They give him a nice home and every amenity so that he doesn't even realize he's a prisoner. Gabby breaks her engagement and accompanies her aunt and uncle to Germany, and even begins to fall in love with the handsome son of a highly political factory owner. Soon, the political climate of Germany circa 1938 gets to her and she returns to Holland.
The Germans sweep through Holland and Gabby finds herself working hard for the underground, smuggling Jews out of the country. A British secret agent, Dailon, approaches her for ideas on how to convince her aunt and uncle to defect to England. For a long while they can't think of anything, but then Dalton's mother, Gabby's great-aunt whom she has long called grandma, passes away and the Germans are forced to allow Dalton to attend the funeral.
Dailon helps Gabby, Uncle Dalton, and Aunt Liza flee Holland, but their perilous trek is fraught with fear. They dress as German soldiers to avoid the many patrols seeking the physicist. In the end, they are caught by a former flame of Gabby's, but he lets them go for he cannot stand to capture Gabby and lead her to a sure death via firing squad. The escape heralds a new phase of Gabby's life and perhaps more for herself and a certain British spy."
