| Plot Summary of Lie By Moonlight |
"Concordia Glade had a very unconventional upbringing. Her parents were both free thinkers and founders of a community dedicated to equal rights for women thru better education. Her parents chose not to marry. Years later, Concordia is a teacher and finds herself teaching 4 young teenagers at a private school for young women in a castle. Shortly after arriving she realizes that it is more of a prison for herself and the girls. They plan and execute an escape by setting fire to the castle. They are almost caught by the villians guarding the castle but are rescued by a stranger.
Ambrose Wells is a private investigator. He was investigating a murder and his clues had led him to the castle. He leads the young women and their teacher to safety, hiding them eventually at his home in London. He and Concordia realize that the murder he is investigating and the lives of her 4 charges are interrelated and join forces to solve the mystery. During the investigation Wells learns of Concordia's unusual upbringing and she eventually learns of his secret past.
The investigation takes Wells and Concordia into society, orphanges, and the local baths and brings them face to face with one of the most dangerous crime lords in London. Just what does he want with the 4 young orphans he has taken from country gentry families. Why don't any of the families look for the missing young women?"
