Plot Summary of Wild Mind
"In this sequel to Writing Down the Bones, Natalie Goldberg continues to offer advice on writing, publishing, and living the writer's life. Written following the publication of Goldberg's first novel, Banana Rose, this book focuses more on the challenges included with writing a novel, but also offers suggestions for writers of poetery, short stories and nonfiction. It is rooted in the same basic rules of writing presented in the first book: Don't think, keep your hand moving, be specific.

Each vignette details a different aspect of writing. She offers practical tips on ways to get yourself to write regularly, such as making a writing appointment with a friend or putting writing times on your calendar, but she also offers suggestions such as taking a walk or a long drink of water in order to get centered, or lying on the couch for an entire day in order to encourage the laziness necessary for a writer.

Interspersed throughout the book are small writing exercises with prompts that suggest either topics, such as writing about home, or exercises, such as listing your favorite words. "
