Plot Summary of Treasures of the North
"Grace Hawkins, a young woman from a wealthy family in late 19th century Chicago, always had a life of comfort and luxury, until her father demands she marry his cruel business partner, Martin Paxton, who has blackmailed him so that he consents to the marriage. Grace knows if she marries Paxton the rest of her life will be destroyed. Grace's mother wants to save her daughter, and so she arranges for Grace to travel with her governess, Karen, who is going to Alaska to find her missionary father.

As the two young women travel, they get caught up in the rush of travelers headed for the Yukon gold rush of 1897. They meet various people, including a widower and his two teenage children, Jacob and Leah, who Karen takes on a motherly role towards, and a handsome young sea captain, Peter Colton, whom Grace begins to fall in love with.

However, Paxton has made good on his promises to destroy the lives of Grace's parents. Their reputation is destroyed, and they lose everything they owned. Once he has accomplished that, he follows them to Alaska, and is still determined to marry Grace so he can ruin her life as well, because in the past Grace's father commited some wrong against his family. Now Grace and Karen must come up with a plan to elude him."
