"Newly divorced Ellie Bennet had been through a lot of changes. Now, she lived in a tiny apartment in a low-rent district, trying to start a career as a sculptor. About the only thing in her life that hadn't changed was her friendship with John Sullivan. Ellie and Sully were good friends, but what did she know about him, really?
Sully had good reason for keeping secrets. Sully moved in dangerous circles. In his line of work, one slip could get a man killed. As for his past, he was lucky just to have survived it. No way did he want to rehash that.
One night, Sully's legendary self control was pushed over the limit, and he found himself in Ellie's bed. But when Ellie awoke the next day, he was gone. Ellie had reveled in the look in Sully's eyes, that he wanted, needed and desired her. She'd never been the type of woman who inspired passion in a man ... the circumstances of her failed marriage had proven that.
Ellie's ex-husband, a man with political aspirations, always hated Sully. Now he throws a file at her ... evidence that Sully is a criminal and drug dealer. His demand? Tell the media you are "unstable" and the reason for our divorce, or your friend goes to prison! His ex-wife could be a liability, but a little blackmail would take care of that.
That night with Ellie proved to Sully what he'd known all along-he was one rotten bastard. Taking advantage of Ellie had ruined the one good thing in his life, the trust of a true friend.
