Plot Summary of Isn't It Romantic?
"This is the usually literary Hansen's foray into light romance. Natalie and Pierre, two Parisians, have long been engaged. Recently, however, each has been considering calling off the engagement. They are having difficulty seeing what they have in common with one another. She's a meek librarian, and he's a flashy man's man. Overwhelmed by the step they're about to take, Natalie impulsively takes off to America. She has long been a scholar of American culture, and she sets off on a bus tour of the American Midwest.

Pierre figures out where she is heading, and wanting to confront her about their future, he chases her, catching up with Natalie in the tiny Redding, Nebraska. These two hard-headed people won't make things easy for one another though. In Redding, Pierre is pursued by a local beauty, and Natalie is captivated by an older man who runs a local winery. The climax is a scene right out of the screwball comedies of the thirties (which influenced the plot), as characters get very mixed up about who is staying in what hotel room. Some of the local characters (who provide much humor) also have a few ideas about who should end up with whom.

Of course, the community's annual festival is taking place during the couple's stay, and on that stage, the couples will ultimately be sorted out.
