Plot Summary of Missing May
"Summer has lived with the quiet, plaintive Uncle Ob and the fiery, wise Aunt May for six years. Unfortunately, Aunt May passed away recently, and Summer and Ob are having difficulty dealing with the loss. Summer feels an aching longing for May, and she feels bored since May had formerly brought so much exuberance into her life. Ob just seems apathetic to life, as though he's lost any desire to go on.

One day, however, Ob perks up and claims that he's felt May's spirit, and he wants to contact her. Cletus, one of Summer's friends from school, reads about a clairvoyant who may help. Summer, though skeptical, is excited by Ob's renewed energy, and she goes along with their idea. Together, Ob, Summer, and Cletus set off across West Virginia to contact May.

Things don't work out as planned. Ultimately, Summer and Ob have to start learning to confront their grief and begin to work on how to go on living together.
