Plot Summary of John Sevier: Pioneer Boy
"    John Sevier was a hero of the American Revolution and Governor of Tennessee. Known as "Nolachuckey Jack" both to his friends and enemies, John Sevier grew up in the forests of the Shenandoah Valley, forests populated by all sorts of wild animals, and angry Native Americans. John liked to hunt and was a great shot, and had the ability to make friends very easily. John became a feared Indian fighter in his adulthood.
During the American Revolution, he defeated a British force, led by Patrick Ferguson, at the Battle of King's Mountain, a victory which caused him to become a beloved hero. He was elected Governor of the short-lived State of Franklin, which was located in Northeast Tennessee. At the time, the state of Tennessee did not exist, and was still a part of North Carolina, but the settlers who lived in the area that would become Tennessee were so far away from the state capital of North Carolina, that the lawmakers paid very little attention to their wants and needs. When Tennessee finally became a state in 1796, John Sevier was elected its first Governor. "
