| Plot Summary of Chill Factor |
"
Lilly Martin is a recently divorced editor of a woman's magazine who is tying up the messy loose ends of her divorce. Lilly's ex is Dutch Burton, police chief of Cleary, North Carolina, a town that has been plagued by the disappearances of five women. When a severe snowstorm strikes Cleary, Lilly is stranded at the mountain hideaway that she once co-owned with her ex husband. Ben Tierney is a journalist who specializes in reporting on extreme sports. When Lilly hits Ben with her car during the snowstorm, the two are forced to work together to make it back to Lilly's hideaway and wait out the storm. Lilly and Ben met and became love buddies a year ago during a group kayaking adventure. Neither one has been able to stop thinking of the other, although Ben tried to stay away from Lilly due to his belief that she was happily married. When Lilly rummages through Ben's backpack at the cabin she discovers a pair of handcuffs and a blue ribbon, which is the serial killer's calling card. While holding a gun on Ben, Lilly handcuffs Ben and berates him for being a murderer. Ben tries to convince Lilly that she can trust him and that he is not the serial murderer. As Lilly and Ben vacillate between attraction and Lilly's doubts regarding Ben being the serial killer, the FEDS have arrived in Cleary to close in on Blue. The Fed's number one suspect is Ben due to his transient lifestyle and his acquaintance with one of the victims. When Lilly manages to get a garbled call through to her ex, Dutch, the FEDS and Dutch race to the cabin in order to stop Lilly from being Blue's next victim. "
