| Plot Summary of Renegade the Hunter |
"Slasher is the hybrid son of two civilized carnivores, Kr'ra'klv'tt and Rakul, who have married outside their clans' blessings and had to move to a freehold on a frontier world, Arvien 4, where hybrids are not discirmminated against. Early in life, Slasher shows unusual bravery and curiosity, and his mother decides he must follow the Warrior's Way and she must find someone to teach him.
She dicovers that an old clan warrior, Broken Spear, has come from Homeworld on the strength of a vision quest to teach hybrid youngsters how to survive the many dangers of the atarworlds. He agrees to take Slasher as a pupil, and soon the boy earns his one true name--Renegade.
Renegade and his two best friends must learn weapons and tch-won, and to obey their people's code of honor and Hunt Law. After surviving other wilderness tests, they come to the final one, the Master Hunt, where each is dropped on a strange world and must either kill a ferocious beast there, or fail and die. Those who succeed earn the title Esteemed Hunter for the rest of their lives. On the day they set out, Renegade learns that someone on the Hunt Council has rigged the hunts for extreme danger, and doesn't want them to survive..."
