"Lydia McQuire, former Union army nurse, is barely eking out a living playing piano in supper clubs in San Francisco. When Lydia sees an ad for a man seeking a wife, she rashly decides to answer the ad in person. When Lydia meets Devon Quade she finds him to be a handsome and kind man. Lydia and Brigham immediately butt heads and strong willed Lydia refuses to marry bossy Brigham. Lydia offers to serve as a governess to Charlotte and Lydia. As Lydia begins to spend more time with Brigham she discovers him to be a very kind and caring man. Brigham and Lydia share a blazing attraction, yet neither one wants to submit to the other. When the town doctor starts courting Lydia, Brigham suddenly realizes that he might lose a love of a lifetime."
