| Plot Summary of Clandestine Confessions |
" Eighteen-year-old Elize postpones going to college and accepts a job in the Caribbean where she is subsequently raped.
Receiving no help from the local police, too ashamed to confide in her family, she decides to keep the assault a secret and continues to travel when her season in the Caribbean is over. But the memory of the rapist haunts her all over Europe.
While working in Greece, in an attempt to escape the specter of her past, she becomes involved with Claudio, an abusive man. When she finds the courage to leave him, she returns to the States where she seeks professional help and starts the long and painful process of recovery.
