| Plot Summary of Joyride |
"Stella Gold, a teacher from Scottsboro, Pennsylvania, can't remember a time when she wasn't best friends with Emily Martin. Friends since junior high, Stella and Emily's friendship has survived college, continents, death and betrayal. Stella's life changed forever when her 17 year old older sister Blanche committed suicide in her parent's bathroom by slitting her wrists. That same evening Emily, Stella and Blanche were having a sleepover party and revealing secrets. Prior to slashing her wrists, Blanche told the two girls that she had lost her virginity with a group of boys during a drunken high school party. Although Stella thought the incident bordered on rape, Blanche insisted that she gave her consent. In the aftermath of Blanche's suicide, Stella's family life changes forever. Stella's father totally self-destructs and basically checks out on the family, leaving Stella's mother to raise Stella and navigate her grief alone. Emily is a rock during this painful time and it cements Stella and Emily's relationship. While Emily falls in love with Jason and loses her virginity to him on prom night, Stella falls for brainy John, who is too pressured by parental pressure to commit himself to a relationship with Stella. Stella ends up dating handsome jock Warren, who becomes her second choice love interest. As college beckons both girls experience the pain of saying goodbye to their best friend. Although they know nothing will ever be the same again they vow to be best friends forever. Fast forward ten years and Emily is reaching out across the miles from London to Stella. Emily is now a famous fashion designer working on a European line. Stella has never left her hometown where she is a teacher. Emily has earth shattering news - she is getting married to Stella's ex-step-father, Kevin. As Stella races across the world to reach Emily she gathers the courage to tell her best friend the shattering reason why she cannot marry Kevin. "
