| Plot Summary of The Changeling |
"Thirteen-year-old Shauna, eldest of the Townson family's five adopted children, is taken away in the night by fairies and a changeling left in her place. However, during the changeover, five-year-old Sierra, clinging tenaciously to her constant companion, Blue Ted, is inadvertently taken as well. The changeling, Dylis, pretending to be Shauna, leads the remaining three children to Fairyland (from whence she had come) in an attempt to rescue Sierra.
The entrance to the fairies underground kingdom is through an old abbey guarded by the witch, Ratstails and her legion of man-eating crows and on their arrival there, ten-year-old Leyla is snatched by the witch and taken to the bell tower to be fed to the ravenous birds. At the same time 100 metres below the abbey, Sierra awakens to find herself not only a prisoner but with a football game ready to start is horrified to see that Blue Ted's head is about to be removed to be used as the football!
As the changeling and her two remaining companions puzzled over whom to search for first, they were further delayed in their quest by the sudden emergence - from adjacent long grass – of a tall gentleman with bushy black eyebrows and beard and a black bowler hat – which in the dim light resembled a crow sitting in a near-falling-off position over his left ear and how it managed to stay on his head as he moved was a profound mystery to all who observed it.
