Plot Summary of Death of a Dentist
" The serenity in the village of Lochdubh has been disconcerted once again! The local dentist has been found murdered and the list of suspects is
quite long! It seems that Dr. Gilchrist, in addition to being a practicing dentist,
is a skilled womanizer, as well; one whose death will find no shortage of
suspects! M.C. Beaton, in this 13th of the Hamish Macbeth series, is once
again, well, M.C. Beaton. Predictable as summer heat in Texas, each of the
books, nonetheless, is a delight to read. Macbeth is the local constable,
laid-back, soft-spoken, idealistic, and more often than not, quite human.
Beaton's Scottish Highlands setting complements her police procedurals
and makes the series well worth the time devoted to following the quite
competent, but understated, accomplishments of her protagonist. As the
solution of “Death of a Dentist” (inevitably) comes into view, the reader, while
not surprised, will find the book worth the effort! A delightful read.
