| Plot Summary of A Doctor's Odyssey |
" The fascinating memories of a doctor who spent most of his professional life in many, often remote, parts of the world and who has seen and done many remarkable things. The observations and comments about people and places make this, in part, an unusual travel book. It is, however, the story of his clinical and administrative work in these places that is both fascinating and unique.
He encountered outbreaks of plague, cholera and anthrax, performed major surgery under “rag and bottle” anaesthesia in the African bush and encountered a bewildering array of rare and bizarre medical conditions, such as the man whose skull opened like a lid!
Repeatedly at odds with officialdom, it traces his path from a callow, insecure medical student to a vastly experienced practitioner.
