| Plot Summary of Dreaming While You Sleep |
"Eight strangers who have all had vivid dreams about a bizarre town called Devin and its inhabitants unexpectantly find themselves there. Nick is a basket case who can't get over the death of his wife and has recurring dreams of a boy who is terrified in a strange town. At the suggestion of a friend, he answers an ad for a house sitter and discovers he's in the town of his dreams. Eddie, 18, finds himself living on the streets, sneaks onto a bus and sleeps in the back. He dreams of a diner and wakes to find himself on an out of control bus that crashes near the diner. Lucy and her brother Doug are on a car trip to meet their grandmother for the first time and are met with a detour that takes them to Devin. Ramey, who dreams of a young boy who wants her to help him escape something, was driving home from work on the route she always took but a dense fog caused her to take a wrong turn. Natalie dreamed about a man with an eyepatch and a young boy in trouble then wrecked her car and lives in Devin. Alex, a cop, receives a report of a drunk with a gun, stops at a wrecked car on her way to investigate and meets Zane, who wears an eyepatch.
As the individuals begin to explore the town they form their own groups and interact with different citizens of Devin. Eddie meets Alexander Hale and is the only one who can see or hear Alexander until later in the story when he also appears to Nick. Alexander tries to warn Eddie about the town and gives him helpful hints about the town. Eddie, Lucy, Doug, Ramey and Alex end up together and try to find and rescue the young boy of their dreams who is the key to the future of their world. They are attacked and have to split up. Some of them find star-shaped stones that burn a star imprint on the palm of their hand and gives the holder of the stone magical abilities. Nick and Natalie team up to find a way to leave Devin but Zane tries to stop them and shoots Nick. Alexander Hale appears and helps Nick use the star stone he found to heal himself. Nick than joins the battle to try to save the boy."
