| Plot Summary of Planet Tokyo |
"Planet Tokyo reveals Tokyo life of the late 20th century from the perspective of a Romanian student attending the most prestigious university in Tokyo while living with a Japanese family.
This Japan is less about samurais and geishas and more about drugs, alcohol, prejudice against foreigners, the gai-jin, mental institutions, as the author fearlessly deconstructs the facade both of Tokyo and herself.
Aquainted with alcohol, yakuza members and hospitalized for a while in an asylum by the family she was living with, as a means to agree to leave the country, Claudia manages to escape the institution only to return to her home country. The book also features descriptions of various parts of Tokyo and Yokohama Bay Bridge. "
