| Plot Summary of The Mysterious Case of Nancy Drew & The Hardy Boys |
"In 1927, the first Hardy Boys book appeared on the shelves. In 1930, Nancy Drew joined them, and the two successful series about amateur, adolescent sleuths garnered a loyal following which would span generations.
Kismaric and Heiferman describe the history of the books and their place in the publishing world. They then examine the characters and stories in the context of the times--how Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys both reflected and influenced contemporary teen culture. The young detectives provided role models for their audience--active, intrepid boys and competent, intelligent girls--while also showcasing the values the authors hoped teenagers would develop. "
