Plot Summary of The Dewey Decimal System of Love
"Alison Sheffield, a 40 year old librarian in Philadelphia, has been celibate for 15 years, but she has fallen in love. The man she feels she has been waiting for all these years is Aleksi Kullio, the handsome and dashing new conductor of Philadephia's philharmonic orchestra. Trouble is, Aleksi is married to a gorgeous woman, Michelle, who everyone thinks is charming, while Ally is thin, bespectacled, and primly dressed.

Ally realizes her love is pointless and inappropriate, but she cannot keep from hoping a romance will develop.   Ally learns that Michelle comes to the library to research how to kill someone. Michelle claims she is working on a mystery novel. Ally volunteers to work on the orchestra's archives. Her work brings her into contact with Aleksi when she discovers correspondence between the composer and the original conductor of a symphony which Aleksi is rehearsing. Aleksi tells Ally he did not know his wife was writing a book.

Ally suspects Michelle is plotting to murder Aleksi so gets her best friend to help follow Michelle. Michelle does not seem to like Ally. Meanwhile, someone has released a horrible smell in the library and Ally and head librarian, Gordon, try to track down who did it. When the same stink is found at the concert hall, Ally thinks that she has to be the connection. "
