"In this sequel to 'A Princess of Mars', Captain John Carter is again transported to Mars, where he is reunited with Tars Tarkas, of the warlike Green Martians, on a pilgrimage to the sacred river Iss. In the Mountains of Otz they encounter Thuvia, a slave of the Holy Therns, cruel guardians of the Valley Dor.
