| Plot Summary of The One Month Marriage |
"Jana felt it was too late for her and Brandon, and the only reason she came back to California was to tell him and to ask for a divorce. After a year of being apart, she didn't think he would mind giving it to her. Afterall, he hadn't even come after her when she left for Eurpose a year ago. It took him two days to even realize that she was gone! However, Brandon was not ready to give up on his marriage - he had assumed Jana had come back because she realized it was time to be his wife again.
After arguing over their marriage, they decide on a compromise. Try being married for one month - no husbandly rights though - and if Jana wanted to go she could. It wasn't truly fair though, Jana had no intention of falling back in love, it could only lead to pain. When Jana left him she didn't realize she had been pregnant, and she had never informed Brandon about his child. Jana felt that Brandon would be a horrible father, just as he had been too consumed with work to be a good husband. Jana couldn't of been more surprised when Brandon made every effort to woo his wife. They both find themselves falling in love.
Near the end of the month, though Jana feels she is unworthy now for her not mentioning his child, she decides to confess and if Brandon would take her back she would gladly be a family with him and let him meet the child he has never known (the child is staying at a hotel in town with Jana's loving aunt). While in the middle of confessing, Brandon interupts her. He assumes that she is talking about how she started writing articles for a local paper he is trying to destroy. Jana, thinking the problem has been resolved, lets the passion rekindle between them. In the morning Brandon plans on a lovely day at home with his wife and gently pulls off the blanket to kiss her when he sees the stretch marks - proof her pregnancy. Assuming she had had another man's child while in Europe, he demands she be gone by the time he comes back, and storms out of the house."
