"When Erik D'Anton was a small child he was horribly disfigured in a car accident that left both of his parents dead. Used to people responding poorly to his deformity he spends his time alone in his mansion with his loyal servants who deal with the public for him. He is also a brilliant architect and musician, hired by and old friend to design a house. When he makes a rare excursion to his friend's house for dinner, he meets his friend's beautiful sixteen year old daughter, Risa. Erik falls instantly in love with Risa but believes that there is no hope of his feelings being requited. Yet when Risa first sees Erik she sees beyond his disfigurement and falls in love. Risa sneaks out each night to see Erik, and at first their relationship is platonic. Erik gives Risa music lessons (she has the voice of an angel). Eventually they overcome their mutual hesitation and embark upon romance. Shortly after the death of Risa's father they marry, and live in Erik's isolated home. However there are problems. Erik is afraid to leave the house for fear of being ridiculed, and Risa wants to have children, but Erik refuses to subject a child to the shame of having a disfigured father. Risa realizes that she must convince Erik of his own self-worth if they are ever to find happiness."
